Sonnet 3 (Orbit)

falling always hurts or so they say

and I fell hard the instant that we kissed

and yet we were so high that winter’s day

we fell beyond the world and into bliss

in orbit all is calm and beautiful

and yet you find you’re falling faster still

as beauty spins below, immense and full

you see what lies ahead and feel a thrill

for Gillian is Best and Beautiful

another year will simply prove this true

my heart and soul remain under your rule

a dance; a joy familiar and new

for if, like us, you fall both fast and high

in orbit you will race across the sky

Sonnet 2

…and so you need to know a thing or two

which makes me smile for I have things to say

of joy and light and fun and hope and you

and why my love grows stronger every day

it’s you, you see, so beautiful that I

can never quite believe when I turn

and see you lying there and so I sigh

and dream of kissing you and thus I burn

Aflame! Consuming fire has come to me

and I have found that passion does not die

with you, my utter joy, my love, I’m free

our future stretches out towards the sky

and so you see you’ve never known how much

my smitten heart rejoices when we touch

Sonnet 1

A gift I give to you whose life I share

Although aware that nought could pay my due

Unrivalled joy compels me still to dare

And here unwrap my heart, my soul, for you

No loneliness remains, nor stain of grey,

For beauty now doth reign and I have peace

I dream of you and dreams now rule my day

At night I find all burdens are released

So what is thirty now? The clocks are still;

In tale of years I now count only five

For I recall the moon on Bradgate’s hill

‘Twas with your kiss that I became alive.

But then how can I give what’s not my own?

For into one our loving souls have grown.

Film-Star Shades

There she stands, film-star shades

atop her perfect brow

and so

she moves

and style and grace exude

she smiles and all will stop

and stare

and see – what joy –

such beauty; rare

and rarefied the air in which she stands

and all around her moves

A Song (Gilly is Better than Everything)

A little song I like to sing

Gilly is better than everything!

she’s better than cake,

she’s better than tea

she’s better than holidays

she’s better than me!

she’s nicer than kittens

she’s better each day

she fills me with joy

and that’s all I can say

Twenty-Six

So what does this day entail

but more?

Yes more of you and more of me

and more of us

and more of she!

and more of; well…

too soon to tell but if…

if twenty-six is this

(this joy!)

then joy is more abounding

and laugh we will and drink our fill

and glory to God resounding!

Words Remain

If I thought that words could say…

…but words don’t work

for they don’t kiss

or give

or laugh

or share a life; how could

they then display the depths of

all I feel for you; my love?

For words remain; printed; plain

eternally still…

but

we shall go; shall dance and

spin and one day dance with Him

well…

Though joy this be if words remain then

I shall write and I

shall write

for you

my love

Older I Suppose

Older I suppose but no…

for youth permits no

stain

disdain cannot reside

this near

your light

and love

and love

is shining now…

I hold your hand and smile

as we move closer to

the light

Words Never Work

Words never work it seems

but oceans of space and time

surround;

room enough to turn and spin

to dance

or trace

a message in the sand

a timeless gift

a kiss
